Graduate Student Krista Wahlstrom Receives National Research Service Award

February 21, 2019

The Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences is pleased to announce that Krista Wahlstrom has been awarded a National Research Service Award (NRSA) from NIMH. The title of her proposal is “Basolateral amygdala projections in the modulation of memory consolidation” and is a two-year fellowship from NIMH. Her project will examine how the amygdala influences the consolidation of different kinds of learning. Her work will focus on how the amygdala alters expression of proteins involved in synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus for spatial learning. She will also investigate the neural pathways from the amygdala that modulate the consolidation of object-based learning. Together, these studies will provide insight into the mechanisms and systems underlying memory consolidation. The work will be carried out under the supervision of Krista’s advisor, Professor Ryan LaLumiere.
